Come out and support Team Lederhosen
The event starts at 9:00 am and lasts till 4:00 pm (we will post Team Lederhosen's race time once we receive them)
Your fellow Germantown resident paddlers need your support - 21 of us will be braving the banks of the Cumberland to bring home paddling glory for the neighborhood. Awards will be given for team spirit and we will all hopefully be paddling so we need you to come out and yell.
Why is this important? The Nashville Dragon boat Race is a benefit for
The Cumberland River Compact - the basin's preeminent water education resource for elected officials, developers, builders, architects and engineers and other professionals. We believe that if we work in an atmosphere of open dialogue that is supported by easily understood data about our water quality, we can create imaginative solutions to new and old challenges - solutions that will work for all of us.We encourage you to join us to help speed this important work.
Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation, protection and restoration of the scenic, free-flowing rivers of our state.
What is Dragon Boat Racing? According to legend, Dragon Boat racing originated in China more than 2,000 years ago when the popular patriot and poet, Qu Yuan, felt disenfranchised by a corrupt government and drowned himself in the Mei Lo River. Upon learning of his death, people raced to the river in their fishing boats and beat the water with their oars and paddles to prevent fish from eating Qu Yuan’s body. According to one myth surrounding this sport, the dragon is said to be the most venerated of the Chinese zodiac and symbolizes control over the water.
A special thanks to Bristol Development Group for their generous donation to the cause in covering the significant cost for the Germantown boat registration.
