Meeting Invitation: Plans for Development at 5th and Monroe

Germantown Partners will be present at a meeting with the neighborhood to discuss their project at the northwest corner of 5th and Monroe. The architects on the project from Bauer Askew Architecture will be there to present thr project. They will also discuss the details of their current request for variances on that lot.

All neighbors are invited.

The meeting will be Wednesday, November 1st at 5:30 pm at Germantown Partners' offices at 5th and Madison (next to the cafe).

The Germantown Neighborhood Association will be holding a meeting with the developers who are planning the project at the corner of 4th & Monroe. All neighbors are invited.

The developers, Joey Smith and Randy Chastain, have refined the architecture and will present their schematics to the neighborhood.

The meeting will be at the Buddeke House (SE corner of 7th & Monroe) on Monday, October 30 at 6:00 pm.

New Demonbreun Viaduct to Debut on October 25

Excerpt from Media Advisory from Nashville Public Works:

Mayor and TDOT cut ribbon, businesses host public celebration marking much-anticipated completion of Nashville’s newest landmark

A new Demonbreun Street Viaduct will officially open next week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a free block party hosted by a coalition of Gulch-area businesses eager to celebrate being re-connected to each other and the downtown area.

Grand-opening festivities will take place in the late afternoon on Wednesday, October 25, and motorists can expect to begin driving over the new Viaduct later that evening.

“With the opening of this Demonbreun Street Viaduct we reunite key areas of our city with another beautiful bridge,” said Mayor Bill Purcell.

The new $8.3 million viaduct, which spans The Gulch and CSX Railroad between 10th Avenue and 12th Avenue, includes stylized railroad motifs, lighting and other unique architectural features that pay tribute to the city’s historic links to the railroad and music industries. It will open five months ahead of schedule, the result of an unprecedented partnership between local and state governments, according to Public Works Director Billy Lynch.

Race for the cure

The Nashville affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation will be holding their Race for the Cure in Nashville on November 4th, 2006.

This year, a large part of the proposed race course will run through Historic Germantown!

The race will commence at 8:45AM and finish around 10:00AM. The proposed course will run up and down 5th Ave. 6th Ave. 7th Ave., and 8th Ave. between the Bicentennial Mall and Taylor St.

Residents on the proposed race course will be affected primarly by parking restrictions on the day of the race. The streets will have to be free of parked cars from 5:00AM until the race is over (around 10:00AM).

Please let us know about any concerns you have about the proposed race course.

Loose Dogs Rounded Up

Several neighbors called in to Animal Control (862-7928) to alert them to the 3-5 dogs roaming our neighborhood in packs. No dogs have been seen in the neighborhood for a week or two now, so our calls were evidently successful.

Please let the neighborhood at large know if you spot these dogs in the future.

"Art at the Arcade" Reception

On October 7, Saturday, from 6 to 9pm, Art at the Arcade launches its first group reception. It's finally happening! A creative oasis has just spurred out of Downtown Nashville. Nashville's first enclosed shopping mall, The Arcade, is now filled with art spaces.

For the longest time, this historic shopping mall has been a popular lunch destination. But now eateries are not the only reason to go to the Arcade. There are eight art galleries and studios filling the previously vacant units, upstairs and downstairs.

These art spaces, collectively known as Art at the Arcade, will have their inaugural group reception on October 7, Saturday, from 6 to 9pm, in conjunction with TAGs opening reception. (TAG is located at the Kress Building on Fifth Ave., across the street from the Arcade.)

Oktoberfest Street Closings

Some traffic and parking will be affected by Oktoberfest.

The following streets will be closed. Please move your cars off of these streets by 10:00AM on Friday (Oct 13th), so the volunteer crews can begin setting up:

• Monroe St from 5th Ave to 8th Ave


• 7th Ave N from Monroe to Madison

These same streets will be closed to all traffic after 3:30PM Friday through the end of the day Saturday.

Oktoberfest Around the Corner

Oktoberfest is coming up very soon (Saturday, Oct 14th) and the festival needs your help to succeed!

Oktoberfest succeeds every year only through the volunteer efforts of our neighborhood. We staff ournehighborhood booth, the various drinks booths (i.e. beer, wine, water & soda), and the bratwurst booth. If you can help out for a few hours on October 14th between 8AM and 6PM, please get in touch.

The Incredible Baby Shower

Healthy Women, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, Healthy Nashville

This year's Incredible Baby Shower will provide pregnant and parenting teens and adult moms a connection to FREE resources to help insure that mom and baby are healthy, and stay healthy from pregnancy to early child development.

The Incredible Baby Shower will feature presentations and topics concerning labor and delivery, newborn care and parenting, healthy lifestyles, and pre-natal care.

This year's event will be held at the Curb Event Center at Belmont University, 2002 Belmont Blvd. on October 4th from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The Incredible Baby Shower is open to women participating in WIC and TENNCare; uninsured women; pregnant high school teens; Metro Public Health Department volunteers; community agencies; local consultants, members of the faith-based communities; corporate sponsors; and community partners.

Event sponsors include the Metro Public Health Department, March of Dimes, Tennessee State University, Belmont University, various vendors, and various community agencies that provide services for infants, children, and youth.
