REFORMING THE ARTERIALS: STREETS THAT MOVE CARS AND CREATE GREAT PLACES IN NASHVILLE
A recent panel session at the Congress of New Urbanism Annual Meeting focused on physically improving strip arterial roads: both in terms of how they look and how they function. This is also a priority in The Plan of Nashville.
Metro Planning is now moving ahead on a push to get all of Gallatin Pike covered by SP (Specific Plan) zoning, and developing a master plan for neighborhood centers, more residential, less awful signage, and so forth. Dickerson Pike is close to starting a master plan process for roughly a mile of new streetscape. This could be the beginning of considerable coverage in the media on this topic, as well as community meetings related to the planning processes.

This roundtable discussion will engage individuals representing the leadership of various constituencies involved in "Reforming the Arterials," including Metro Planning, TDOT, Metro Public Works, MDHA, MTA, MPO, Metro Council, Community Activism, and the development community.
