Jazz and Blues Returns to Jefferson St. for Citywide Festival
Historic Jefferson Street will once again ring with the musical sounds that made the area famous during the sixth annual Jefferson Street Jazz and Blues Festival.
The event, which will be held from noon to 11 p.m. June 17 on Jefferson Street between 26th and 27th avenues will be sponsored by the Jefferson Street United Merchants Partnership - J.U.M.P. The all star and diverse lineup will include Rod Magaha, Herschel Bailey, the Jefferson Street All-Star Band featuring Johnny Jones, Marion James and Nick Nixon, and the nationally renowned saxophonist Joe Johnson.
Food and art vendors will line Jefferson Street, area businesses will be open and many participating artists will be available to meet fans and sign autographs.
Prior to the all day event, J.U.M.P. will also sponsor the Bridging the Gap Mixer from 8 p.m. to midnight June 16 on the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge. The mixer, which began in 2003 as a way to bridge uptown Jefferson Street with downtown Nashville, will include three stages of music, Jazz -West stage, Brazilian/Latin band-East stage, and a D.J. and dancing at center stage and a cash bar.
Volunteers and vendors are still needed for both events.
The Mixer is $10 and the Jazz and Blues Festival is free, but organizers are asking for a $2 donation.
