Nashville Green Drinks, Sat 1/20

From Gardens of Babylon at the Farmer's Market:
Hello everyone. This Saturday we'll be hosting Nashville Green Drinks, a group promoting sustainability in Nashville, for a tour of our newest part of the company the Soil Improvement Division.

We'll meet in the main greenhouse closest to 8th Ave. at 3pm on the 20th.

The purpose of this gathering is to discuss our methods of soil improvement. Improving soil fertility has many benefits. Water and synthetic fertilizer reduction, less disease and pest problems, and healthier plants are the main benefits of the process. The tour will include a deeper look into vermicomposting, compost tea brewing, soil feeding, and microorganisms in action under the microscope.

Jazz Workshop Internet Fundraising

Lori Mechem, Director of the Nashville Jazz Workshop, wrote to let us know about their latest fundraising effort:

We try to be selective in our fundraising -- there are schemes out there that sound good but are dubious. However, here's one that's on the level and can help us -- it's called Goodsearch.

What if the Jazz Workshop earned a penny every time you searched the Internet? Well, now we can! GoodSearch.com is a new search engine that donates half its revenue to the nonprofits its users designate. You use it just as you would any search engine, and it’s powered by Yahoo!, so you get great results. Just go to www.goodsearch.com and enter the Nashville Jazz Workshop as the charity you want to support. Just 500 of us searching four times a day will raise about $7300 in a year without anyone spending a dime!

Be sure to go to www.goodsearch.com on Sunday, January 7 -- we'll be featured as the Charity of the Day!!

We hope you'll consider making this your regular search engine or home page. Several of us have done so and have found it useful and convenient.

Thanks for your support!

Development Activity at 5th & Monroe

Germantown Partners wrote to us about the south-east corner of 5th & Monroe:

We wanted to let everyone know what's going on our "MONROE" site. We have existing building permits which will expire in February if we don't proceed before then. In order to keep them in place, we're going ahead with the silt fencing and associated inspections. We're working with our realtors and builders to try to achieve pricing that everyone is comfortable with. Optimistically, we'll be able to move ahead with actual construction in the next few months. We'll keep you posted.
